Expansion of street arts in Europe

Here and there in Europe, artists working in public areas invent new forms which are sometimes intriguing, sometimes disconcerting, but always stimulating. By observing a number of real or envisaged projects, we will see if new aesthetics appear, new schools emerge, other relations between creation, the population or audiences are developed and new performance areas are defined... Which original experiences stand out and what do they tell us about ourselves and the world? -- We start with an overview of potential "false friends" and lexical misunderstandings throughout Europe in the field of street arts.

A meeting proposed by Chalon dans la rue, the trans-national festival of street artists, and IN SITU, the European network for artistic creation in public areas. Design and presentation: Pascal Le Brun-Cordier (associate professor at Paris 1) and Jean-Sébastien Steil (coordinator of the IN SITU network). With Gabriele Boccacini, artistic director of Stalker Teatro (Turin), Pedro Garcia, artistic director of Chalon dans la rue (Chalon sur Saône), Kees Lesuis, programmer of the Oerol festival in Terschelling (Netherlands), Pierre Sauvageot, composer and director of Lieux publics, centre national de création des arts de la rue (Marseilles) and Judith Vindevogel, artistic director of the Walpurgis troupe (Antwerp).
